This is also known as a “doggy daycare”. It means a daytime care place for dogs. This also means taking care of dogs for a small amount of time. It is much similar to the daycare services that are available for children normally. There are two types of facilities in this. Either the dog is sent to a place or a dog-sitter comes to the home of the pet. The idea behind daycare for children and daycare for dogs are the same. Normally when dog owners have a busy schedule and cannot take care of their pets, they send them to a dog daycare.
Where Did It All Start?
The idea of a dog daycare became popular in the Unites States of America greatly in the 1990s. In addition to that the kennel industry also grew at that point of time all across the world. With the word becoming a more modern place, the idea of dogs staying indoors became common. Before the World War II, dogs normally stayed outside as strays. There are a few other factors that led to the growth of the concept of having pets. As population grew, there were more number of people who did not have children. Such people were also in need of love and affection. Henceforth, the idea of adoption of dogs became a trend. The first ever dog day care that was established was “Yuppie Puppy Pet Care” in New York in the year 1987. It was founded by Mr. Joseph S. Sporn. After New York City, San Francisco was yet another place that saw the huge growth of the dog daycare industry.
What Kind Of An Environment Does A Dog Daycare Provide?
There could be different kinds of arrangements in different day care centres across the globe. While some places promote a cage-free area for dogs, some places keep dogs in cages. The idea of cage-free dogs under supervision of trained individuals is a better idea to some. Some places allow dogs to go outside and play with other dogs. However, some other places have facilities to keep dogs indoors only and do not let them interact with other dogs.
Things You Must Do Before Putting Your Dog In A Daycare!
- Is the daycare using a friendly method to interact with your pet?
- Is the behaviour of your pet improving or is it getting anxious?
- Is your dog being given enough space to play around?
Dog daycare might sound like a very cool idea but it could also be an expensive idea at the same time. At times, the amount of facilities that a day care centre provides is related to amount of money you are willing to spend. Yet another interesting point to note is that not all dogs should be blindly sent to a day care. An honest review of your dog’s behaviour should be kept in mind before sending it there. It is important for you to examine if your dog is fit enough to go to a day care. You should also focus how it is affecting your dog’s character. Some dogs may tend to become aggravated if it is sent to a shabby daycare centre.
